The unveiling of information mediation activities carried out in the ambience of the Casa de José Américo foundation archive

Abstract

Objective: identify who the mediating agents are and what information mediation activities are carried out by them within the scope of the Casa de José Américo Foundation Archive - FCJA and categorize them according to the concept of information mediation defended by Almeida Júnior (2015).
Methodology: this study was characterized as descriptive, using a case study as its method, with the object of investigation being the Casa de José Américo Foundation Archive.
Results: the Archive can be considered as an educational environment, due to the fact that it promotes actions that contribute to the training of users, where it promotes the dialogical process that supports the appropriation not only of general cultural knowledge, but also of specific knowledge. It was also found that information mediation activities are linked to the process of cultural mediation, given that there is an interrelationship between information and culture, the production of mediating devices and activities in a time and territory in which practices cultural influences its development.
Conclusions: information mediation is the basis of all activities carried out by the mediating agent in the Archive environment, as stated by Almeida Júnior (2009). Thus, it was possible to observe that direct and indirect information mediation activities take place in the Casa de José Américo Foundation Archive both individually and collectively, according to the categorization presented by Almeida Júnior (2015). This statement was noticeable in the development of direct information mediation activities, when, for example, assistance to the researcher occurs, which is classified as an individual activity, as well as in a technical visit by a university class, categorized as a collective mediation activity of information.
