Semantic relations and interoperability in thesaurus represented in skos

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to understand how SKOS and its extension models have been used to promote interoperability with other vocabularies and to refine semantic relationships in thesaurus on the web.
Methodology: Uses documentary research in the reference guides of the data models used to represent thesaurus on the web.
Results: data models have been used to represent terms and their linguistic variations, the relationships between groups and subgroups of concepts, in an intra-vocabulary perspective, and the relationships between different vocabulary concepts, in an inter-vocabulary perspective.
Conclusions: The use of SKOS, and its extension models, contribute to a better structuring of concepts in thesaurus. Extension models are appropriate for representing compound equivalence relationships, or for structuring groups and subgroups of concepts in thesaurus.
