Web 2.0 in the Reference Service

Abstract

Introduction: The resources which compose the Web 2.0 jointly with its characteristics such as interactivity and dynamism can be used in the Reference Service of Libraries. It is allows users to interact with librarian for information share, answer questions, exchange of ideas to improve the information dissemination process. 
Objectives: To analyze the applicability of Web 2.0 and its impact on the Reference Service in the libraries of the federal universities in the Brazil Northeast. 
Methodology: The methodological procedures include relevant literature searches to the topic and field research. For data collection, a questionnaire was administered to nine federal libraries in the Northeast, getting return in five of them. The data obtained was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. 
Results: The results show that, on the one hand, that the majority of libraries researched know the importance and uses of Web 2.0 in the Reference Service and use these resources, especially to serve users. On the other hand, it is observed that there is use of some features of the Web 2.0 to satisfy the user. 
Conclusion: Thus, we conclude that the libraries researched are at an early stage the majority uses and knows the importance of Web 2.0 features in the SR of libraries. It is important to highlight that in the librarian activities context have include some actions to motivation the use of the Web 2.0 as well as which disseminate information and what objectives to be achieved.
