Abstract

Introduction: Bibliometric and scientific indicators increasingly have attracted the interest of the Scientific Community as it has been used by agencies as support elements to productivity assessment and procedures for establishment of policies to conduct the development of resource allocations.
Objective: To present and discuss aspects related to the generation and use of scientific indicators, the scientific visibility, the science representation as well as the link between scientific indicators and representation and organization of the knowledge.
Methodology:This study was based on Bibliographic research.
Results: The study shows that scientific indicators can be used as an instrument for scenario evaluation, orientation for promotion and development policies, which increase several poles of scientific excellency. However, errors or lack of standard on title or author descriptions can generate imprecise information that makes indicators distorted and unreliable to support analysis and decision making processes.
Conclusions: This study shows that the development, generation and analysis of these indicators require standardized documents and appropriate knowledge representation and organization; recommends that the development and improvement of these indicators is a continuous process, so they can track the dynamic attributes of the world that they seek to represent.
