O estudo sobre os faxinais no Paraná é parte de um diagnóstico mais amplo realizado por uma equipe de pesquisadores interdisciplinares do IAPAR, dentro do Programa especial chamado PRORURAL. A metodologia empregada neste diagnóstico foi direcionada no sentido de obter um enfoque sistêmico do meio rural. Destacou-se, por conseguinte, a necessidade de empreender ações de pesquisa que extrapolassem as questões puramente técnicas e tecnológicas e abordassem conjuntamente problemas de ordem econômica e social.
