Commuting Mobility Linked to Higher Education in the City of Montes Claros-MG

Abstract

Commuter mobility refers to the regular movement of individuals between their homes and places of study or work, and is an important phenomenon for understanding current socio-spatial dynamics. In Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, this mobility is particularly visible, especially with regard to access to higher education. The study in question seeks to understand the different commuting patterns of university students in the city, as well as identifying the challenges they face. To achieve these objectives, the research used a methodology that combines a literature review and interviews, integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results indicate the existence of various categories and patterns of mobility between higher education institutions in Montes Claros. Each institution has specific mobility characteristics, which reflect both its regional reach and the needs of its students. The diversity of mobility profiles and patterns observed between academic institutions highlights the complexity of the phenomenon in the city. This analysis contributes to a better understanding of the dynamics of access to higher education and the challenges faced by students, highlighting the importance of public policies that address this reality.
