The rainfall pattern exerts a considerable influence on meteorological variables such as humidity, temperature, radiation balance and others, in addition, it is responsible for characterizing landscape morphologies, which will change depending on the occurrence of rainfall which, depending on each place, it follows a constant of annual totals that vary month to month. In this sense, the parameters analyzed in the present research were the annual and interannual variations of rainfall anomalies in three neighboring municipalities located in the Metropolitan Region of Recife (Abreu e Lima, Igarassu and Paulista) using the quantitative methodology of the Rainfall Anomaly Index (RAI ) proposed by Van Rooy (1965) which consists of the average observation of the ten highest precipitations (for positive anomalies) and the ten lowest (for negative anomalies) and historical precipitation records. The main results found pointed out the distinctions between the values of the indices, even though the rainfall stations are relatively close and the total amount of annual precipitation is not discrepant. Finally, the research offered a contribution to the assessment of rainfall behavior in little-studied areas in the state of Pernambuco.
