Nos primeiros anos deste século, o Brasil apresentou um forte crescimento da produção e exportação de cimento. Este artigo procura demonstrar as origens e a consolidação do ramo cimenteiro no país, suas principais características de mercado e as trocas internacionais do produto - os maiores produtores, importadores e exportadores mundiais, bem como os principais mercados de importação e exportação de cimento para o Brasil. Os dados secundários foram obtidos a partir de relatórios do Cembureau, do SNIC, do IPEA, da SECEX, entre outros, e a dimensão temporal considerada compreendeu os primeiros anos do século XXI.
