Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition that affects the psychic and cognitive areas, requiring specialized attention. Suicidal behavior is commonly present in people with ASD. The objective was to understand the care offered by health professionals in identifying and managing the risk of suicide in children and adolescents with ASD. Descriptive research, with a qualitative approach, was carried out through interviews with health professionals involved in the care of children and adolescents aged 10 to 18 years with ASD. The results indicate difficulties in diagnosing and evaluating patients, the impact of family relationships on mental health, protective and risk factors for suicide, and its management. It is concluded that although the literature indicates a higher risk for suicide than that of the general population in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, professionals do not always have this perception in practical scenarios.
