Representations of palestinian women in the perspective of American Journalist Joe Sacco during the first intifada (1992-1996)

Abstract

Through this article, we focus our attention on the world views of the American journalist Joe Sacco on Palestinian women during their trip to the Occupied Territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The period corresponding to her trip to Palestine relates to the events of the First Palestine Intifada which began in December 1987. The guiding hypothesis of our work is to analyze how Sacco represented Palestinian women in the process of producing Palestine. We take into account the effort that the journalist offers in reporting a partial vision in favor of Palestine and the initiative to give voice to a people that the author himself considers to have no space in the western media. For this, we consider the concept of representations of the French historian Roger Chartier as a theoretical framework for our analyzes. As a methodological instrument, we have guided our observations to the work of Edivaldo Pereira Lima on the book-report.
