Social history and cinema: an approach to the period 1955-1976 through Los Traidores

This article attempts an approach to the troubled period of the contemporary history of Argentina that elapses between 1955 and 1976 through analysis of the movie Los Traidores, filmed in 1972. The movie narrates the story of a trade union leader that is corrupted in his rise to power. It is proposed here a multiple approach: analysis of film as a historical document, approaching the level of immediate experience of the subjects, as the interpretation of recent history, and as a political agent in the context of the 1970s. It aims to provide an open and diverse image of the period, confirming the usefulness of cinema for social history.References
