At the XIth century Eastern European artists created the first artistic forms for Babel. What plastic forms had been used to compose this Babel’s imaginary? What relations did exist between these architectural images and the real architecture at the time? Submerging in certain periods of the history of the art and arising in others, the images of Babel evidence the kunstwollen of certain social groups, and materialize poetical relations between the lived architecture and the fantasy architecture. This article studies the images of this city-tower in medieval European art between the XI and the XV centuries, looking for the contexts in which they were created, and the poetics and worldview that originated them, and continuously arise from them.Downloads
