Abstract

A new visuality about Africa can be seen in the native narratives of two prominent African photographers, ghanaian Nana Kofi Acquah and nigerian Yagazie Emezi. The proposal to go beyond the apparent surface of images and skin color to dive into specific issues in Africa. The article is theoretically based on Stuart Hall, regarding the proposition to break racial assumptions, and also focuses in particular on the African voice, with the philosopher Paulin J. Hountondji (2008) and Kwame A. Appiah (1997).
