Abstract

The target of this communication consists in analyzing the role developed by press photographers, both national and international, who worked in Madrid during the Spanish Civil War. In this way, we will reflect on their working conditions, the limitations in their activities and the control exerted by the authorities in charge. We will also approach a highly interesting point to those who study the image as a knowledge source of the past: the different ways press photographers had to “look into” depending on the channel in which their work is distributed.
