Reporting the experience of home visits and nursing consultation to the menially deficient in Londrina

The authors report the experience of nursing students from the Centro de Ciências da Saúde (Health Science Center) of Universidad Estadual de Londrina. The project was developed by the Community Extension Program, involving ISO students raging from 0 to 25 years of age from Santa Rita Special School belonging to the Parents and Friends Association of the Mentally Deficient, The purpose of the project was to promote health care, by means of home visits and nursing consultation aiming at the improvement of the health of the mentally deficient population of Londrina as well as to fill in a gap in the nursing curriculum. This project has a permanent character and it will be extended to other institutions working with the mentally deficient.
