Diabetic patients receive at the Universitary Hospital of the State University of Londrina interdisciplinary assistence, with the purpose of attending the patient in his biopsycossocial interity. For th reason Psychology in not art isolate assistance for the patient, but is included in an integrated work with the psychologist working at two levels: 1) in groups and individually (when necessary) with the patients; 2) with the professional staff as orientating and integrating members. Therefore, the psychologist's main objective is therapeutic work of intervention and education centralizing the emergent problem of the patient. It intends to conduct the patient to elaborate his actual experiences, to live with diabetes ami to develop his potentialities. Through our experience we have perceived how difficult it is to establish the diabetic's psychological outline. However we emphasize two aspects normally observed: 1) simulatory of diabetic's psychological characteristics to other degenerative diseases; 2) the preseption of guilt and the ocorrence of the illness as punishment.
