The authors studied the incidence of spinal pain in the elderly, based on two questionnaires applied to elderly people in the area covered by the Basic Health Unit (UBS) of Vila Casoni, Londrina, Paraná. A sample of 83 elderly people, involving both sexes, was studied. The results confirmed the high incidence of back problems in this social segment. Based on studies that reinforce the idea that preventive treatment or palliative treatment through physical therapy is more suitable for the elderly, the authors carried out a group work with the presence of specialized professionals. Easy-to-read materials on spinal pain were created to be distributed at the UBS. The study also demonstrates that physiotherapy is highly sought after by the population in the region, although the municipal health network does not offer this professional service in basic health units.Downloads
