Guidelines on Plagiarism and the Use of AI

Guidelines for Authors: Scientific Integrity, Plagiarism, and the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

SEMINA CBS reaffirms its commitment to ethics, transparency, and excellence in scientific communication. In light of advancements in content generation technologies, we have established the following mandatory guidelines for manuscript submission, applicable to all authors.

  1. Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism violates scientific ethics and intellectual property rights. This journal adopts a zero-tolerance policy regarding this practice.

  • Definition of Plagiarism: Using the ideas, data, images, text, or methodologies of others without proper credit, whether partially or entirely.
  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing extensive sections or data from one's own previously published work without appropriate citation and methodological justification.
  • Screening Tools: All submitted manuscripts undergo automated similarity detection software prior to the peer-review process.
  • Consequences: Identifying plagiarism will result in the immediate rejection of the manuscript. If the article has already been published, a public retraction notice will be issued.
  1. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools

The use of Generative AI (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, among others) and Large Language Models (LLMs) must adhere to strict transparency criteria.

  • Prohibition of Co-authorship: AI tools do not meet authorship criteria, such as legal accountability and the capacity to provide consent. AI cannot be listed as an author or co-author of the manuscript.
  • Permitted Use: AI may be used strictly for linguistic support, including grammatical correction, translation, and improving text readability.
  • Restricted Use: Using AI to generate data, create scientific hypotheses, draft structural theoretical sections, or design scientific images and charts is prohibited, unless the tool itself is the subject of the study.
  • Final Accountability: Human authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, veracity, and originality of all content, including the precision of references generated or reviewed by AI.
  1. Mandatory Transparency Declaration

Authors must formally declare the use of any AI tools during the manuscript preparation process.

  • How to Declare: If applicable, include a specific paragraph under the "Acknowledgments" section or in an "AI Usage Declaration" at the end of the article (before the references).
  • Declaration Content: Specify the tool used, the version, and the exact purpose (e.g., "ChatGPT-4 was used exclusively for grammatical review and stylistic enhancement of the English text").
