Abstract

Peanut seeds are targets for pathogens and create problems for the production of the oil seed plant. An alternative for the control is the application of ozonation due to its high oxidation potential. Therefore, the objective of this trial was to evaluate the effect of the application of ozone gas, in three peanut cultivars, on the physiological and sanitary attributes according to the period of exposure of seeds to O3. The seed health test was carried out on the seeds of cultivars IAC OL3, IAC 503 and Granoleico, after submission to ozone gas for 0, 1, 8 and 16 hours, also comparing the performance between cultivars and physiological aspects (germination, first count and seedling length). Peanut seeds have different physiological and sanitary performance of seeds according to cultivars. The exposure of seeds of the peanut cultivars IAC OL3, IAC 503 and Granoleico to ozonation gas for several periods does not interfere in the formation of normal seedlings evaluated in the first count and germination test, however there are effects of increase, decrease or no effect on the length of seedlings for the cultivars Granoleico, IAC 503 and IAC OL3, respectively. There is no eradication of fungi present in peanut seeds exposed to ozone gas at a rate of 600mg/h up to 16 hours, but the incidence of the fungus Rhizopus sp. increases, decreases or is indifferent in the optimal rate of 8h for the cultivars IAC OL3, Granoleico and IAC 503, respectively
