This article, theoretical-empirical of qualitative nature, uses the narrative film Up in the Air to illustrate and discuss how people cope and are impacted by the constant questions and decisions about their careers in contemporary life. It also presents the interface of sustainable discourse in the contemporary notion of career. The theoretical basis favors the use of the concepts of late modernity and liquid, coming from sociology, and career, from the perspective of Organizational Studies. We conclude that the relationship between individual and organization became liquid. People are seen as solely responsible for your success or failure and therefore are compelled to take over the management of their careers. This new attitude to career is characterized by questioning the individual about their skills and abilities; how to respond to the organizations' sustainable discourses and values; how to reconcile personal and professional life; and try to survive the impact of a life which is remarkable feeling of anxiety, which appears to be the only certainty in their careers.Downloads
