This article presents an outlook on the sugarcane industry in 2013, comparing it to other sectors and fundamentally shows the evolution/regression of some relevant aspects of the sector, when compared to the data from years 2012 and 2013. This is a descriptive research based on the secondary data published in the Análise Ambiental journal (2013-2014). Authors observed that, in at least three indicators (‘environmental policy’, ‘environmental management structure’ and ‘tree planting’), the sugarcane industry exceeds the average of other sectors analyzed. As for the ‘ISO 14001’ indicator, in which the sector presented a very low rate, authors inferred that the industry is seeking for more specific certifications, which could not be detected from the data of this research. When compared to the average rate of other sectors, the sugarcane industry has low performance on the indicators ‘environmental impacts’ and ‘relationship with suppliers’. In general, the results obtained in the analysis allowed to point out that some indicators in the sugarcane industry have shown advancements, while others need bigger attention, especially when compared to other sectors included in the survey.
