Organizational sustainability - OS comprises three smaller sustainabilities: economic OS, environmental OS and social OS. The present study highlights the social OS - SOS. This research also discusses rationality in Guerreiro-Ramos’ theory, which includes the instrumental rationality (guided by the logic of calculation and efficiency of the results as a single order) and substantive rationality (values ethics, understanding and good social practice). Due to its characteristics, closeness between SOS and substantive rationality is inferred. The objective was to discuss the alignment of such phenomena. We conducted a quantitative empirical research, which employed the case study methodology, conducted in a newspaper. Data collection occurred through questionnaires, analyzed by descriptive statistics. The company studied showed a good development of the SOS and prevalence of substantive rationality. Although the study cannot claim the correlation between SOS and substantive rationality, such evidence adds to other studies with similar results.
