The objective of this paper is to analyze critically and historically the company as a social-economic phenomenon that has projections in Law. With the use of documental research, this study will question whether sustainability constitutes the theoretical basis for the reconstruction of certain premises, which establishes the concept of companies. Nonetheless, results also indicates that multiple interests can converge within companies; thus, sustainability - when applied to them - opens up a new paradigm for law. Finally, this paper theorizes that law should be seen as an instrument that allows for different aspirations, both private and public, to be promoted; however, they have to be harmonized.
