new perspectives for the representation of information resources

Abstract

Introduction: Due to exponential increase in the volume of information available in digital environments as well as the fast progress of Web technologies, thus increasingly changing the role of information professional in this context. This way is important to highlight the need of the new instruments and methods of representation and organization of information.
Objective: This paper presents an overview of so-called Semantic Technologies, analyzing the conceptual and technological developments of the major Web technologies in the light of theoretical advances in the field of Information Science.
Methodology: The methodology adopted in this study was a bibliographic research.
Results: The study results showed that the use of some technologies is presented as an approach capable of addressing the emerging information needs and to provide an impetus to repositioning the information professional in contemporary society, highlight innovative approaches as well as new possibilities and practice for information professional.
Conclusions: This study showed the importance of new technologies of representation, highlighting the need to strengthen the logical-mathematical training in the area of Information Science as well as systematization of theoretical and methodological guidelines to encourage the teaching of new skills necessary for the representation and contentorganization in digital environments.
