Abstract

Introduction: Libraries are special spaces for the development of the storytelling activity, especially the public and community ones. According to their functions, these units should be educational, cultural and leisure centers. Objective: This report describes the visits made to the Public Libraries of Barcelona, Spain and surroundings during the months of June and July 2016. Methodology: Interviews were conducted with coordinators of reference projects in the area of reading promotion, as well as observation of storytelling activities. Results: We verified the diversity of practices developed in libraries, with regular and continuous frequency, the valuation of books and reading and the participation of librarians. Conclusions: The visits broadened our perspectives on the field of research, also contributing to the formation of a reflexive posture about the Brazilian reality related to reading programs and policies in public libraries.
