Drones, Turismo e a Emergência de Novas Paisagens:  um ensaio teórico

Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicles, or civil drones, have recently emerged in the fields of Geography and Tourism, as in other areas of application. However, studies in Brazil that address mini-drones in the socio-spatial practice of tourism from the perspective of Humanistic-Cultural Geography are still rare. In light of this, this theoretical essay aims to analyze how civil and/or recreational drones can reconfigure the visuality of landscapes in the geographical experience of tourism and its respective study. To this end, it draws on Anglo-Saxon literature in Geography and Tourism to weave together complex and dispersed knowledge. It adopts Morin’s (2015a) method of Complexity to substantiate its reflections. It begins by exploring how the touristic gaze is formed to scrutinize multiple territories. It then revisits contributions from Humanistic-Cultural Geography concerning landscapes and how they can become touristic. It also proposes a provisional synthesis around the complexity of drone imagery in tourism, especially regarding landscapes that are, at times, more-than-human, in an interplay between human and machine agency. Finally, it offers reflections on the heuristic possibilities of this equipment within the realms of the technosphere and the psychosphere, particularly in the reproduction of geographical imaginaries in and of tourism.
