Abstract

The studies that have as theme the environmental degradation and its consequences are at the center of discussions. This research aims to assess the ratio of normalized difference vegetation as a way to help the analysis of the degradation of the Serra da Meruoca-CE. The study area is located in the western part of the state of Ceará, comprising part of six cities, including two municipalities with full participation. The materials used were satellite images, which were processed in ArcGIS software and Spring and rainfall data provided by FUNCEME.We emphasize the importance of analyzing the vegetation cover in the study of degradation. With maps generated together with graphs of rainfall and water balance, it is clear that suppression of vegetation cover in the Serra da Meruoca-CE, this is because even in 2013, with a more positive fluid balance of the year 1993 the response of vegetation cover was lower than the year 1993.
