This study has its origin in the need for understanding about the process of escape in land rural settlements projects (PA) created by the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA) in Paraná State. After the conquest of the land, although it is not recent in the state, much less in Brazil, escape is viewed by society as a common part of selectivity in agrarian reform. The survey was conducted from 2008 to 2010 in 35 rural settlements in Paraná State, with capacity for 2,100 of these families settled and it was found that 798 families negotiated parcels that received the land reform program. The reported reasons for dropout are many, which have changed the lives of an entire family. Is possible to verify that the negotiation of the escape to the settler, at the moment, might seem like a good opportunity, but it reveals itself a loss. The results show that the woman demonstrates a greater sense of loss when the family gives up the land, that their relationship with the land is beyond just a space to farm, it is also a space to hold the family together.
