A cultural action that took place in Curitiba, designed and coordinated by photojournalists, yielded significant changes in the ways of seeing and doing photography in the city not only in the field of production but also, and chiefly, in terms of language. Many such actions, as the Photojournalism Exhibition, the Photography Week and the International Photography Biennial no longer exist. This article intends to analyze how the relationship between public administration, photographers – in the condition of organizers of these events – and community was built. The adopted hypothesis was that local cultural policy and marketing on the part of public agents were the main responsible for the suppression of those activities which were, to a certain degree already recognized locally. Their important contributions to the photographic practices in the city were focused.
