Abstract

The research on audiovisual effects on the tourist experience is mainly focused on tourist’s behaviors. Studies on the role of television in tourism and on the emancipatory economic strategies for local development are still scarce. This study interprets the effects and attributes of television productions on the experience of visiting Torres Vedras Carnival (Portugal), through field research, documentary analysis and visitors’ survey. The main objective is to identify a set of factors that can contribute to touristic affirmation and community emancipation. The results suggest a positive response, therefore, it’s possible that the effects of television productions may contribute to the touristic affirmation of Torres Vedras Carnival.
