Abstract

In this second part of the series of reflections on the photojournalistic image via an analysis of the cover of the Jornal do Povo paper of March 19, 1954, we are interested in understanding the fire and explosions of Maria Celeste beyond the pretended objectivity of its verb-visual-spatial translation. How do photojournalistic narratives contribute (or can do it) to the construction of the memory of the narrated facts? As a result of a critical, reflective, and analytical documentary exercise, and from the bibliographical review of Christoph Wulf's thought, we believe that this rite is a kind of link between imagination and memory when we see the faces of six of the dead of the tragedy on that cover.
