This paper was written for the "X Semana Interna do Prevenção de Acidentes", which trad as main aim to discuss the role of alcoholism and other drugs as factors for fib-related accidents. It is known that some substances, because of their consumed doses and pharmacological responses, can potentiate and facilitate job-related accident risks, when previously consumed for the accomplishment of a task which demands a certain degree of training and good coordination. Alcohol and marihuana are originally depressor substances of the central nervous system, stimulating serious motor uncoordination, impairment of memory and critic sense, and also ataxia. These motor and cognitive malfunctions may make the accomplishment of certain tasks difficult, with bad consequences. This paper also discusses the psychostimulants and opiates implications on individual performance in tasks which need psychomotor coordenation.
