Abstract

Oral health promotion seems to be the first degree on prevention. Breastfeeding helps to make the environment favorable to oral health and less propitious to the installation of oral diseases and maloclusiol1. Breastfeeding seems to be linked to lower levels of mouthbreathing, dental caries, longue thrusting, oral habits such as thumbsucking anel to the lower necessity of pacifiers. Besides that, it makes favorable the normal developl11enl of the stomatognatic system. Questionnaires approaching Breastfeeding related lo oral health were distributed to teachers and students of the last year of the Dentistry Course from the Universidade Estadual de Londrina and lo users (parents). Results demonstrate that although medicaI reasons are extensively accepted, most users ignore dentistry's reasons for promoting Breastfeeding. We suggest that information about Breastfeeding as an oral health promotion factor should be adequately implemented on undergraduate dentistry courses
