Abstract

Pharmacovigitance was defined by the World Health Organization as: The notification, the registry and systematic evaluation of the side effects caused by medication. The idea of stabilizing pharmacological characteristics before its commercialization, the drugs go through a series of tub studies, yet there are infrequent side effects, unknown, or unexpected that can not be entirely valued until the medication is used in systematic way by the doctors. The purpose of 3 pharmacovigilance program must be: Early detection of the side effects: describing new side effects of these drugs (RAM) and value its clinical significance: stabilising the frequency of the RAM: determining factors that predispose the RAM: developing information programs about RAM: adopting measures destined for the treatment and the possible prevention of RAM. The Pharmacovigilance methods known are: Voluntary notification systems of side effects caused by medication: intensive vigilance methods: observation studies of Farmacovigilancc; among others. The role of the Pharmacist, includes not only the responsibility with the medications but also (hey have to be dispensated through a rational system, materializing the dispensation by unit dose, assuring that the medication will he given on the right dose at the right time. It is also important to favor the implantation of Pharmacovigilance through the maintenance of a Drug Information Center since it is frequently required for the explanation about side effects. There are countries like Spain, where the health professionals are required to notify the RAM that has been observed. Pharmacovigitance is a very expensive activity, since all the places will have to have qualified professionals and important administrative support. The contribution of the pharmacy services are very important when it comes to discover and notify the RAM that have been observed by the phisicians.
