The scientific research and the university functions

Taking into consideration the economy globalization, some questions have arisen concerning the role of the university in the economic and social development of the community which is leading to reflections and discussions about the university functions in the society The University presents three regimental functions: teaching, research and extension. The high level education is a privative function and the unique exclusive social responsibility of the university (and other high education institutions), while research and extension are shared will many other institutions with these specific functions. In the university the research activities have an important function in the performance of the teachers and in the background formation of the students, trying to reduce the distance between what is taught and the knowledge boundary being an essential academic activity for the good performance of its privative function of teaching, in relation to extension, it also presents a primordial role in the background formation of the students. In relation to the university participation in the scientific and technological development of the community, it could not lose sight of its primordial and privative objective, which is teaching, deviating from its main activity
