The evaluation of the caloric and protein undernourishment etiology has shown that it has multiple causes, based on povertyand nutritional deficiencies as most severe aspects. The following discussion has focused the undernourishment on social determinants and on how theoretical models explain the consequences of this condition. The functional isolation model seems to be the most polemic among several models of undernourishment, because it considers the adaptation deficits of the undernourished as not due to consequences of undernourishment, but as consequences of the way of animal copes with their environment, which is poor in nutrients. The model not consider behavior of those animal as being pathologic, but as well-organized set of physiologic and psychologic behavior improving chances of survival tor the undernourished. The conceptual definition for functional isolation mode) has a tautologic nature so, to avoid this problem, a new form of functional isolation is proposed. In this case the temperature variable will also be manipuled.
