Yesterday a slum... Nowadays a district: nurses performance in the community

The objective of this work was to make possible for the nurses and students (nurses-to-be), to face the reality of she people they will assist, by means of a concrete and dynamic performance which has contributed for the background formation of these professionals. An extremely poor district of Londrina was chosen for this experience. The authors discuss at first, why poor people became so miserable, mentioning examples of concentration of profits by some countries and discussing why developing countries get into this situation having accepted grants. They also describe the activities developed by the group in the raising of awareness and sensibility of the population, the collection of data of the families demands and consequently the organization of an Association to maintain a day nursery for children from 2 to 5 years old, named "Creche Boa Esperança". In doing this, the authors emphasize the way of doing things with people and not only for people, sharing experiences and discussing results.
