The authors analyzed the detection of antithyroglobulin and anti-microsomal antibodies in 200 serum samples from patients with autoimmune thyroid diseases. The tests were executed at the Clinic Immunology Section of hospital Universit6rio Regional do Norte do Parana, Londrina, using the microaglutination methodology (Sera Tek, Ames Division, Miles Laboratories), from november 1988 to june 1991. First, we considered all the results with at least one positive test. After we considered only high antibody titles that were strongly associated with auto-immune thyroid diseases like Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Grave's Disease. The results showed a discrepancy in the positivity frequency of these auto-antibodies when tested isolated, and that their simultaneous detection should be useful in the diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid diseases.
