Considering that the knowledge of etiologic agents and patients of urinary infections allows the adoption of effective diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive measures and that temporal comparisons of the sensibility of microorganisms are important in terms of actualization and standardization of antimicrobials for hospital use, the authors aimed to relate the etiology, epidemiology and the standard of sensibility of the isolated bacteriae of patients suffering from nosocomial urinary infection, as well as to compare them to community infections. Thus, 2,223 urucultures of patients treated at the Northern Parana Regional University Hospital were analyzed in 1988, A predominance of infections in female patients was observed. Nevertheless, the same predominance of infection occured in male patients older than 60. The most frequently isolated etiologic agent was Escherichia coli, both in hospital and communitary infections. Klebsiella sp, Enterobacter sptind Pseudortionas aeruginosa presented a significant number in nosocomial infections accompanied by a high antimicrobial resistance level. Escherichia coli demonstrated to be very sensible to Nalidixic acid, nitrofurantoine; and 1° generation Cephalosporine, which did not happen with the other enterobacteria. Those, presented a significant sensibility to quinolonae, amieacine and generation cephalosparinae and a high resistance to ampiciline and trimetoprim-sulphametoxasoh
