Abstract

The submandibular glands of castrated male mice show atrophied convoluted duct cells with reduction in protein synthesis. In this work we studied the effect of a single dose of testosterone upon the stimulation of protein synthesis by these cells. We determined the steps and chronology of this recuperation by intermittent accompaniment at short intervals. We demonstrated that, after the hormonal stimulation, the glands show decay in the protein synthesis in the first 12 hours-Then there is an increase of the exportable protein rising to maximum in the fifth day after testosterone administration. The analysis of a specific androgen-sensitive protein shows a similar kinetics as with general protein synthesis.
