Abstract

This inquiry led to a series of questions about our school, our students, our educators, our health services, our population and our health problems. As a result of these inquiries and in the wake of a series of events unleashed by PROUNI-LD, PEEPIN was created in 1992. A new way of teaching and learning, a strategic proposal to counteract that teaching carried out in the classroom, with a lot of content, but which made it difficult to reflect on our actions. A methodological proposal different from that usually used in tertiary education, and that some teachers (trained physiotherapists, doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists and non-educators) understood that it could advance in the knowledge of reality and provide a greater reflection on the situation of health of our population and in this way transform students who were previously passive and uncritical into critical, active and creative students.
