Fish are the most diverse group among vertebrates, but the real scale of such diversity is still far from being well known. Brazil has the largest hydrographic networks in the world, and due to this, the studies carried out in this area were insufficient to determine its diversity. The purpose of this work is to carry out a survey of the studies related to fish diversity of the upper Paraná River basin, which is considered the most surveyed one in terms of Brazilian hydrographic basins, in order to serve as a source of information for proposals of studies in non-surveyed regions. It is noticed that there are few studies in the northern watershed of the basin, in the States of Minas Gerais, Goiás and the Federal District, besides the western watershed, in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul.
