Profile of the participants of the “ pregnant women´s interdisciplinary treatment service”

The period of gestation is considered a period of deep changes in the life of a woman. Thus, all the information and knowledge are necessary to lessen the anxieties and anguishes that occur in such period. It is essential an interdisciplinary service that focuses both the psychological and physical aspects in order to assist the pregnant woman in an overall manner. The objective of this study was to outline the profile of the pregnant women who took part of the “Pregnant Women´s Interdisciplinary Treatment Service” carried out at the Physiotherapy Clinic of Northern Paraná Regional University Hospital, Londrina, Paraná State, (HURNPr – UEL), and also to discuss about the use of physiotherapy techniques during the group therapies. Two questionnaires, formulated by the interdisciplinary team, were answered by the women, one in the first meeting and the other during the puerperal period. The target population consisted of 30 pregnant women, with ages between 16 and 42 years old, married, with High School level, workers, with family income superior to 10 minimum wages, first pregnancy and sedentary. The techniques learned in the course were used by just over half of the pregnant women.
