Effects induced by strength training: analysis of physiological changes in hypertensive individuals

Objective: To contextualize, through systematic review of the literature, the principal effects induced by Strength Training (ST) in individuals with arterial hypertension (AH). Methods: We selected original articles published in the online database US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (PubMed) by the filters, “Free Full text”, “published in the last 5 year”(2011 to 2016), using up to search the term: Strength Training and arterial hypertension. Results: Of the 105 articles found, 12 were included in this review. Final considerations: Different studies have shown that reduction systemic blood pressure appears as one of the main effects of ST on the organism of individuals with AH. This effect is made possible, above all, from specific morphological and physiological changes such as reduction in peripheral vascular resistance, cardiac output decrease and the release of vasoactive factors.Downloads
