Historical and contextual prologue about the journal Informação & Informação and the brazilian meeting of bibliometry and scientometry

Objective: introduce to the historical aspects of the journal Informação & Informação and register fundamental elements for the memory of the Brazilian Meeting of Bibliometrics and Scientometrics.
Methodology: descriptive account of historical and contextual aspects.
Results: the evidence demonstrates that the journal Informação & Informação emerged as a reflection of a moment of significant transformations in society and in Information Science. The eight editions of the Brazilian Meeting on Bibliometrics and Scientometrics demonstrate that this event represents a privileged space for the integration and dissemination of national research on information metrics.
Conclusions: the editorials of the journal Informação & Informação offer important elements to analyze the historical and contextual path of this scientific publication and systematic and more in-depth studies of these sections presenting each issue are recommended. The Brazilian Meeting of Bibliometrics and Scientometrics still lacks research dedicated to structuring its historicity, since the content produced here originated from scattered records.
