Resumo

Objective: To explore the ontology of the digital as a challenge to information management within the context of memory and heritage. This study examines the scenario of digital predominance and its relationship with the contemporary challenges faced by information units. It argues that digital assumes a dominant role, leading to a reconfiguration of the entire informational landscape and prompting a profound reformatting of institutional practices.
Methodology: It presents a theoretical and exploratory approach based on the concept of the digital object within the informational context, from the perspective of digital humanities. It examines the relationship between information in digital form and how its heuristics present challenges for the management of these digital collections by information units.
Results: It discusses the complexity of rights issues related to collections in the digital context. It highlights how access to collections, especially digital ones, can be hindered by these rights concerns. The OpenGLAM movement is presented as an alternative for formalizing the use of collections in the information environment, based on the requalification enabled by contemporary digital practices.
Conclusions: The challenge for information institutions is continually evolving, requiring them to keep pace with technological transformations and innovations.
