Antes de discorrer sobre a Nova Divisão Internacional do Trabalho (NDIT), cabe salientar alguns aspectos da Velha ou Antiga Divisão Internacional do Trabalho, a fim de que as transformações ocorridas tornem-se claras. A Velha DIT proporcionava diferentes relações de troca entre os países do mundo e, consequentemente, imprimia características diferentes das atuais à organização do espaço mundial.
