Integrated management of water resources and the problem of urban flooding

Urban floods have been one of the main problems in the cities. The present essay tries to delimit this phenome through of methodological approach of the hazards, risks, socio-environmental vulnerability, and flooding control, indicating possible ways and challengers to viable solutions in evolutions and development of the Integrated Management of Water Resources - IMWR. Integrated conceptions of floods show the risk management and socio-environmental vulnerabilities characterization to minimize life and material losses. IMWR has potential of support equal ways to urban floods problems, has axial integration capacity between hydric and land use policies. In institutional level, on Brazil case, an A articulation between municipality interests, states and national water resource policies is the main challenger. For surpass it, there are necessities of holistic studies to support and justify in front of public authorities land use policies linked to water management promoting most municipals participation in IMWR processes.Downloads
