Abstract

This paper intends to discuss, based on the novel Lavoura arcaica (1989), by Raduan Nassar, some of the constructions of the images of the father and his prodigal son (in reverse), André. To this end, some concepts from myth will be addressed in order to understand how the text apprehends transgression in the narrative, thus highlighting the heuristic potential of the work for the understanding of the profane and the sacred. An attempt will be made to understand how André's desire also occurs through his father's desire, constituting this desire in one of the guiding elements of the work
