Abstract

The following paper focuses on the analysis of the short story Axolotl (1976) by Julio Cortázar, having the semiotic theories proposed by Greimas and Fiorin as its guideline. A few questions are asked, based on studies of the signs used by the author and the attempt to identify some passions, relying on the assumptions proposed by the Semiotics of Passions (1993). Some points are also made concerning the way the enunciator creates some elements, providing a sense of strangeness that is inherent to Hispanic Magical Realism, and taking into account the historical and political context at the time of the story’s writing.
